Go snorkeling with sharks in the safety of a steel cage. Go and look these fierce-looking creatures right in the face on this North Shore Oahu tour. We leave from the historic harbor of Haleiwa and head out for a bay cruise where we know sharks congregate. At certain times of the year, we will spot whales and other marine animals, and bigger sharks that pass through these waters.
Our steel cage is moored about 3 miles offshore, and sharks naturally approach it due to the crab boats that often drive by (easy food pickings for them). Visibility is sometimes over 150 feet, so you will have the clearest water experience, watching these predators come up from the deep.
- Haleiwa Small Boat Harbor, Haleiwa, Oahu – approx 1-hour drive from Waikiki
- We encourage guests to bring their underwater cameras, though disposable cameras and video options are available for purchase.

Frequently asked questions
What Type Of Sharks Are In Hawaii?
Of the forty species of sharks found in Hawaiian waters, eight can be observed in near shore areas. They include the white tip reef shark, the sandbar shark, scalloped hammerhead and tiger shark. Tiger sharks are one of the largest and most aggressive and have attacked humans.
What Should I Bring On A Shark Tour?
Bring a swimsuit, reef safe sunscreen (it’s the law), a towel, light jacket, change of clothes, flip flops and an underwater camera. Tours will provide the snorkeling and diving gear.
What Is It Like To Swim With Sharks In Oahu?
Shark tours involve participants who enter an underwater safety cage that can hold around 4 to 6 people. Some cages have a plexiglass window for taking photos. Most tours last about 2 hours. The sharks often come right up to the cage while being fed.
Does the shark cage swimming provide a life jacket for a 7 year old?
There are lifejackets available in the case of an emergency. This experience with a cage means you will be holding onto the side of the cage and looking out the whole time. You will not be swimming but floating, holding onto the cage as itʻs floats in the water.
My swimming skill is not very good. Could I book the north shore shark encounter?
This tour is open to everyone. You will be holding onto the side of a cage the entire time and keeping your face in the water with a snorkel to watch the sharks go by. You will not be swimming anywhere.
