Paddle the majestic Wailua River, original home to the first Hawaiians who came from the Marquesas Islands to Kauai almost 1500 years ago. As your paddle cuts through the clear water, hear the legends and learn about the flora and fauna of Kauai’s most sacred place. The water will shimmer around you, reflecting the stunning backdrop of the jungle and the blue sky. After paddling past numerous Heiau (sacred shrines), you will view ancient Kamokila Village, the sight made famous in the jungle scene of the film Outbreak.
Heading up the north fork of the river, you will have a leisurely paddle through one of Kauai’s most beautiful jungle rivers. Then, you come to the trailhead for the 1.5-mile hike to enchanting Secret Falls, a 120-foot fall that descends into a refreshing swimming hole. Take in the incredible sight of light scattering off the falling water and the beautiful display of greenery against dark earth. While there enjoy a picnic lunch and beverages and a cool dip before heading back downriver.
